Remembering Richard L O’Connor Muppet Movie Producer Dies at 96

Richard L. O’Connor, producer of The Muppet Movie and numerous other films and television projects, has passed away at the age of 96. His death on July 22nd in Palm Desert, California was confirmed by his family to Variety. O’Connor served as executive in charge of production on beloved classics including The Muppet Movie and On Golden Pond. His extensive career also included work on films such as Across 110th Street, Raise the Titanic, and Barbarosa, as well as television movies like Friendly Fire and an adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front. In 1990, he won an Emmy for his work on A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story. Born on January 7th, 1930 alongside his twin brother Don, O’Connor began his career in the CBS Television City mailroom after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. His final project was Face Value in 2001, after which he retired near San Francisco’s Botanical Gardens.
