Lucasfilm is introducing a new interactive installation called Carbon Freeze Capture that allows fans to experience being frozen in carbonite. This feature was announced during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and will debut as an exclusive preview at the D23 fan event in Anaheim. The attraction recreates the iconic scene from Empire Strikes Back where Han Solo was frozen by Darth Vader in Cloud City. Attendees can pose next to a full-size replica of Han Solo encased in carbonite while two interactive stations capture their own likeness in the same medium. This preview serves as an introduction to Star Wars: The Experience, a massive traveling museum exhibition celebrating fifty years of the franchise. The full exhibition will open at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in February 2027 before touring North American cities for five years. Visitors can expect over seventy authentic artifacts including screen-used props and costumes from various Star Wars films and television shows. The immersive experience also includes environments like Queen Amidala’s throne room with projected visuals and an RFID-powered system that personalizes each guest’s journey based on their Force allegiance.
