News: Face Masks Could Soon Be Required at Certain Orlando-Area Businesses

Yesterday, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings spoke about the current state of the global health crisis and its impact on the Orlando-area recently. During this time, he reported that he didn’t like the numbers he was seeing.

In the last week, the number of cases places like Orange County (where Disney World partially resides) has significantly risen.

Mayor Demings is concerned there could be a second wave that could far exceed the first spike that occurred back in April.

While he’s urging the public to comply with the new health and safety guidelines issued by government and health officials, he’s also stated there could be potential to make wearing face masks mandatory, especially for certain businesses they’ve linked to recent breakouts through contact tracing.

Welcome to Orlando!

For now, Demings’ goals moving forward will be to reiterate social distancing and safety measures that have already been implemented, but if cases are still rising, further action may take place.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will let you know if masks end up becoming required at select businesses.

Virgin Atlantic to Resume Flights to Orlando

virgin atlantic

Virgin Atlantic, a UK-based airline, will resume flights to Orlando International Airport on July 20, 2020. Virgin Atlantic is the main carrier from the UK to Orlando. Prior to COVID-19, the airline operated multiple direct flights per day to Orlando from both London and Manchester.

The airline will now fly its London routes from Heathrow as it has permanently discontinued its London Gatwick operations. Along with returning to Orlando, the airline will also resume flights to Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York JFK, and Los Angeles. The airline will also be implementing new health and safety measures.

These new health and safety measures include:

  • Health questionnaires before check-in
  • Electrostatic spraying of high-grade disinfectant onboard in all cabins and lavatories
  • Supply of a personal Health Pack which will contain medical-grade face masks as a requirement to be worn onboard, surface wipes and hand gel
  • A simplified hot food service onboard to minimize contact

While the airline will be resuming flights, it’s unknown when non-US citizens will be allowed back into the US. Travel restrictions are still in place and non-essential international travel is advised against.
