The Transportation Security Administration is rolling out new computed tomography scanners across hundreds of airports to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of carry-on baggage screening. These advanced machines create detailed three-dimensional images allowing agents to rotate items 360 degrees and automatically detect potential threats without manual inspection. Passengers benefit from the updated technology by no longer needing to remove laptops or travel-sized liquids from their bags during the screening process. However, the narrower scanner tunnels mean larger carry-on luggage must be checked instead of taken aboard. Officials state the new equipment enables faster security checks while maintaining safety standards for all travelers. Approximately three hundred locations have already received these upgraded systems. The agency plans to replace older scanners gradually as additional funding becomes available for nationwide implementation.
