This week marked a significant shift for Disney parks, with July 4th weekend seeing the lowest crowds in fifteen years. While fireworks drew visitors to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, overall park attendance remained remarkably low based on wait time measurements. The least crowded Independence Day period since 2011 extended through mid-July, offering visitors shorter lines than typical summer experiences. Despite reduced crowds, operational challenges persisted with an alarming 8% average attraction downtime across all parks. Animal Kingdom suffered the most severe impact with 11% capacity loss due to unexpected closures. Several major attractions experienced prolonged outages, including Test Track and Slinky Dog Dash which were down for over a third of the week. Posted wait times showed significant inflation compared to actual guest experiences, particularly at Gran Fiesta Tour where posted times exceeded real waits by more than double. The combination of low attendance and operational issues created an unusual summer pattern that may continue through August and September if weather conditions improve.
