The beloved Carousel of Progress attraction at Magic Kingdom will close on July 6, 2026, for a significant refurbishment expected to last until sometime in 2027. This iconic stage show holds special historical significance as the most performed stage production in American theater history and was personally developed by Walt Disney himself. The upcoming update will feature Walt Disney as an Audio-Animatronic figure for the first time at Walt Disney World, recreating scenes from his original 1964 television presentation. Time periods in each act will shift to include the moon landing era of 1969, Halloween 1985, New Year’s Eve 1999, and a futuristic finale inspired by John Hench concept sketches. The classic Sherman Brothers song will remain intact while physical props and practical effects are preserved throughout the transformation. This carefully considered refresh honors the original attraction’s charm while bringing it into a new era for future guests.
