Walt Disney World Railroad Closes for October 2026 Refurbishment

The Walt Disney World Railroad will undergo a routine one-month refurbishment from September 28 through October 29, 2026. This closure is separate from the ongoing construction of new lands at Magic Kingdom and follows years without scheduled maintenance. The railroad has been operating in shuttle mode since July 2025 due to track modifications for upcoming attractions. Shuttle operations involve trains traveling between Main Street USA and Fantasyland stations before reversing on the same route. Engineering teams have modified train seating to improve passenger experience during these shorter trips. Disney previously closed the railroad for over a year during TRON Lightcycle Run construction, but this time it remains operational in limited capacity. The upcoming refurbishment aims to address track maintenance needs that have accumulated since the last service in 2022.
