Disney is preparing to open its new Lakeshore Lodge hotel, which will feature a unique water recreation area called The Wetlands. This immersive space draws inspiration from the 1995 film Pocahontas and includes themed zones like Heron Shores and Otter Spring. The design incorporates a lazy river and waterslide, amenities that echo Disney’s historic River Country water park. Located on the same site as the former park, which operated from 1976 until its permanent closure in 2005, the new development continues a legacy of water-based entertainment. While these features are standard for major Disney properties, their placement here creates a nostalgic connection to the past. The hotel is expected to open within the next year, offering guests a blend of modern luxury and historical homage.
