Military Families Receive Surprise Disney Magic at Tampa Event

Over two hundred military children and their families experienced a magical day at MacDill Air Force Base during a special Blue Star Books event. Hosted by Blue Star Families with The Walt Disney Company, the celebration honored literacy and the strength of storytelling within military communities. Second Lady Usha Vance appeared to launch her 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, encouraging children to read as part of America’s 250th anniversary observance. Each child selected ten books for personal libraries plus two additional copies to share with friends, while families received Blue Star Welcome Kits designed to help navigate military relocations. The event featured Mickey Mouse appearances, themed crafts, literacy activities, and the delightful surprise of complimentary Walt Disney World Park Hopper tickets for every attendee. This generous giveaway is part of Disney’s broader America250 initiative that includes a $2.5 million commitment to Blue Star Families. Over their nearly fifteen-year partnership, Disney has donated more than 370,000 books to military children through the Blue Star Books program. The event successfully combined literacy promotion with community support and magical memories for families who serve the country.
