Disney has confirmed that the animatronic possums from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be returning to the attraction at Magic Kingdom. These familiar residents were temporarily removed after reopening following an extensive refurbishment project. The removal was not intentional but occurred because the possums interfered with safety clearance requirements during testing. Ride envelope measurements showed the animals were positioned too close to guests, creating a potential hazard. Disney states that there was insufficient time to address this issue before the attraction reopened to the public. A solution is currently being developed, and the beloved critters are expected to return in the near future. Fans who had noticed their absence will soon be able to spot them dangling from trees again during the ride experience.
